The two week wait

After you ovulate (and have sex, and try to make a baby!), it is approximately two weeks until you are supposed to start your period. Doctor recommend not taking a pregnancy test until the first day that your period was supposed to start. Of course you can test sooner, but you might not get an accurate result. The longer you wait, the more accurate of a result you will receive. That means you need to ideally wait until you are supposed to get your period before you take a pregnancy test. That time frame is right around two weeks. Two weeks from ovulation, until the day your period is supposed to start. Two weeks until you will either take a pregnancy test, or get your period and know that you are not pregnant. And that, my friends, is the two week wait!

The longer you wait, the better

The two week wait can be really difficult to deal with, especially when it is all you can think about! It is a time period where you are “in limbo” and you don’t really know for sure what is going on inside your body. Of course, the two week wait is not a “rule”,and you are welcome to take a pregnancy test at any time during your cycle. However, keep in mind that the longer you wait and the closer to your period date that you can get before taking a test, the better. If you do test before the two week period is over, make sure you take another test after the two week period to ensure that the results were accurate. In a nutshell, when it comes to how long you need to wait after ovulation to take a pregnancy test, the answer is simple. The longer you wait, the better. Easier said than done though, right ladies?
