Age plays a very huge factor in how long it generally takes a couple. If you’re in your early twenties it may take as little as 5 months but if you’re over the age of 30 it could take longer. There is no true answer on how long it will take each particular couple to conceive, however, if you have both met with physicians and have been deemed healthy there should be no issues.
There is a process that must take place in order for a female to become pregnant. This process must be followed exactly and if any riff takes place problems may very well occur.
• A woman must release an egg.
• The egg must go through a Fallopian tube toward the uterus (womb).
• A man’s sperm must join with (fertilize) the egg along the way.
• The fertilized egg must attach to the inside of the uterus (implantation).
Infertility occurs in about 10 percent of women according to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). Women are not the only ones who have infertility problems, men too have these issues. The field says that one third of the infertility causes are female related and another one third of the causes are male related. The final one third are a mixture of the two and unknown causes.
Male infertility typically occurs when an issue known as varicocele (VAIR-ih-koh-seel) occurs. This issue becomes an issue because the veins on the male’s sexual organ become constricted with heat causing the count and shape of sperm to be manipulated. The movement of the sperm can be another cause for infertility as the shape of the sperm really matters. These types of issues are caused from injuries to the reproductive system. There are times that as humans we are born with these types of issues and have played no role in them occurring.
There are many things that a male can do to increase his sperm health. Conversely, there are a number a things that he may be doing that is not helping matters at all and may be causing his infertility.
• Extreme alcohol usage.
• Drugs
• Environmental toxins
• Smoking cigarettes
• Serious health conditions past or present
• Medicines
• Chemotherapy
Female infertility occurs as I have stated just as much as it does for males but for different reasons. Most reasons a woman will be infertile will have to do with ovulation. Without ovulation there will be no egg to be fertilized, which means there will be no way to conceive a child. Ovulation problems are mostly caused by an issue known as PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome). Another known cause is POI (Primary Ovary Insufficiency) which occurs when a woman’s ovaries stop working efficiently before the age of 40. There are number of things that could affect a woman’s fertility such as:

• Stress
• Diet
• Athletic training
• Overweight or underweight
• Smoke
• Extreme alcohol usage
• Sexually transmitted infections (STI)
• Health issues (ie. PCOS)
Always remember that the best policy is to meet with a healthcare professional and discuss any issues or concerns that you may have. The important thing is to remember that both males and females must be healthy in order to conceive. Also remember that infertility causes occur just as much in females as they do males. Remember to keep track of ovulation and body signs so that you may find some peace when understanding if/when ovulation is occurring to be sure infertility is occurring.
