In-Vitro: IVF and IVF Cost

In Vitro Fertilization, also known as IVF, is one of the most successful fertility treatment options that we have today. However, it is also one of the most intensive fertility treatment options, and along with that, one of the most expensive. You probably already knew that though, but today we are going to go a little more in depth and explore what the average cost of In Vitro Fertilization actually is, and why. How much does IVF cost?

The average cost of one round of In Vitro Fertilization treatment in the United States is around $12,000, but in some places can be as high as $15,000. You should always be wary if a fertility clinic touts their price for one cycle of IVF as anywhere under $10,000, as this is NOT normal. They are most likely not telling you about some charges somewhere in there. Make sure that you get the “total” price when you are getting a quote, and be very wary of any fertility clinic that offers extremely low prices. They are most likely going to charge you more than that, and are just not telling you about it!

Extra cost for IVF options

Having frozen embryos left over from a previous cycle can really bring the cost of In Vitro Fertilization down, but not many women have this as an option. If you do have frozen embryos, however, the average cost of a frozen embryo transfer is only around $4,000, so you can see how that can really save you money in the long run! If you’re In Vitro Fertilization case is “special” in any way, that is, if you will require additional treatment methods or techniques, or if you opt for genetic testing of your embryos, etc. That will add to your costs significantly. For example, if you intend to use donor sperm, add about $3000 to $5000 to your total IVF cost. If you need to use a donor egg, however, that will raise your costs up to around $25,000 or $30,000 per cycle!

IVF refund arrangement program

As you can see, IVF is a very expensive treatment option to help you conceive, but it does often have a great success rate. Most fertility clinics have some time of payment plan or payment arrangements that you can take part in that help to make it easier to afford treatments. Some clinics even have a refund program, where you pay the cost up front, and they will refund some of your money if you don’t get pregnant after a few IVF cycles. Also, make sure that cost isn’t the only thing that you consider when choosing a fertility clinic. You should also consider their success rates and how you feel about the clinic in general, in addition to the cost of the treatment.
