Tips for Checking your Cervical Mucus

Tips for Checking your Cervical Mucus

There are many ways to find out when you are ovulating and one of the most effective ways is checking your cervical mucus. Your cervical mucus will not lie to you and checking it is actually easier than you think. Checking the cervical mucus is easier than keeping track of your basal body temperature. You may think that the method is squeamish and icky but it is also very efficient. Remember that you are trying to have a baby and only when you keep a track of the changes in your cervical mucus will you know when to have sex. Only when you time the sex properly will your chances of having a baby increase. This technique is definitely a wonderful technique! Claim Your 20 Free Pregnancy Tests – Click Here

What to look for

The reason why checking cervical mucus is so important is that you will never go wrong with it. Once you know what to look for, checking it will be easier. There are many changes that the cervical mucus goes through during your menstrual cycle. You can tell whether you are ovulating depending on these changes. For example, at the start of the period and until a few days before you start ovulating, the cervical mucus will be pretty thick. It is safe to say that at this stage the cervical mucus is pretty inhospitable and the sperm will find it difficult to swim through it. However, when you inch closer to ovulation, the appearance and volume of your cervical mucus will change. A couple of days before ovulation you will find that your cervical mucus is watery and clear. The appearance will be more or less like egg whites. This cervical mucus is completely hospitable for the sperm and will make things easier for them.

Here are a few tips to help you check your cervical mucus properly:

Insert a finger to your vagina

You might find it hard in the beginning but once you do it right, you will find that it is easy. How to do it, you may wonder. Make sure you wash your hands properly and then dry them. Once they are completely dry, insert a finger into your vagina. You may need to insert a little deeper too but that varies from person to person. Remove your finger and check the cervical mucus. Rub it with your finger and thumb and then check it. If it stretches and the appearance is clear, you are close to ovulation. If it is thick and sticky, you are not ovulating.

Wait for a few hours

Don’t check the cervical mucus immediately after sex. Wait for a few hours because you can get mistaken and read the mucus wrong if you do it after sex immediately.

Or use a toilet paper

If you don’t want to insert your finger up your vagina, use toilet paper instead. You could also check your underwear to find out.

Try after urinating

If you are not able to find cervical mucus in the first place, try after urinating. That may help matters.

Clomid

If you are taking a fertility drug such as Clomid, the cervical mucus may be scarce. Even antihistamines may have an effect on the quantity of your cervical mucus.

PCOS

If you have PCOS, you shouldn’t rely on cervical mucus to check when you are ovulating because women with PCOS usually see lots of fertile mucus at varied times through the menstrual cycle.
