Visit your doctor

Before ever starting to try to conceive, it is a good idea to visit your doctor for an all around check up and to talk to him or her about trying to conceive. Your doctor will be able to tell you if you need any vaccinations before trying to conceive, or if there is anything you can do to improve your chances of getting pregnant.

Start taking prenatals

Your doctor will be able to recommend a good prenatal vitamin for you to start on before you try to conceive, to make sure that your body is getting all of the important nutrients you need to grow a life.

Stop smoking & alcohol

There are several things you can do to make it easier to get pregnant and carry a healthy pregnancy. One of the biggest things you can do is to stop smoking. This will help you a lot in your journey to conceive, along with avoiding alcohol or illegal drugs.

Healthy diet & body

You also need to make sure that you are eating a healthy diet, taking your prenatal vitamins and getting plenty of exercise. Try to do whatever you can to get your body in the best shape possible to carry a baby.

Cut back on caffeine

It is also a good idea to try to cut back on caffeine while you try to get pregnant.

Take care of dental work

This is also a good time to see a dentist and get any dental work done before you conceive.

Health insurance

After you complete the above, you can start planning a little bit more in depth about what you will do when you get pregnant. This is a good time to start thinking about your health insurance and doctor’s options for what will happen if/when you get pregnant.

Any obstacles in your path?

Start thinking of what you would need to take care of if you woke up pregnant tomorrow. Try to go ahead and handle as many of those obstacles that you can, so that you will have less to worry about in the future.

Read parenting books

This is also a good time to start thinking of what you will do when you are a parent, maybe read some parenting books, and get an idea of what kind of parent that you want to be. By getting a head start on these things before you get pregnant, you will be ahead and will have less to worry about in the long run!
